ELKHART — August S. Wozniak Jr., 87, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, at Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born Feb. 3, 1928, in Elkhart to August S. Sr. and Josephine M. (Nowak) Wozniak.
On Oct. 9, 1954, he married the love of his life, Verna Jean (Smith) Wozniak, in Elkhart.
Survivors include his wife and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, August was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret T. Miller and Elizabeth M. Ziliak.
August proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 until 1952 with the Fifth Army Infantry. Following his military service, he was employed with C.G. Conn for 19 years and later owned the Michiana Aluminum Foundry Co. Inc. for 42 years prior to his retirement.
He was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a former member of the Elkhart Fraternal Order of The Moose Lodge 599.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Matthew Coonan will officiate. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Elkhart County in memory of August.
