ELKHART -- Arthur Warren Baker Sr., 88, of Elkhart, died at 6:25 p.m. Monday (Feb. 2, 2009) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Elkhart to Clarence A. and Blanche (Everett) Baker. On June 20, 1941, he married Ann Robinson in Elkhart. She died May 30, 1989, in Elkhart.
Mr. Baker is survived by one daughter, Betty Ann Huff of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Baker and Arthur W. Baker Jr., and five siblings.
Mr. Baker worked as a tool and die maker at Elkhart Brass for four years before working as a meat cutter at Plumrose, Elkhart, for 38 years. He retired in 1986. He was a longtime member of Elkhart Church of Christ.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Rhineland and the Aleutian Islands from 1942 to 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He was decorated with the Purple Heart and many other ribbons and badges.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and a half hour prior to Friday's 1 p.m. funeral service at Elkhart Church of Christ, 29222 C.R. 12 W., Elkhart. Pastor Neil Milliman will officiate. Burial with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army Honors Detail will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
