Obituary

July 19, 1954 - Nov. 8, 2013

EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Anton W. "Tony" Marshall, 59, of Edwardsburg, entered into his eternal glory to be raptured with the saints on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart following a brief illness.

He was born in Muskegon on July 19, 1954, to the late George and Irma (Schroeder) Marshall.

On April 20, 1975, he married the love of his life, Ilona (Hoffman) in Galion, Ohio. She survives at home after 38 wonderful years together.

Also surviving are his children, Peter (Erin) Marshall of Oxford, Cindy (Mike) Spencer of Constantine, Melody (Daniel) Wirick of Waldport, Ore., Karen (Gary) Lear of Mishawaka, Ind., Debra (Jon) Kauffman of Elkhart, Ind., David (Deana) Marshall of Lafayette, Ind., Sarah (Adam Czarnecki) Marshall of Mishawaka, Erik Marshall of Orion, Mikel (Monica) Marshall of Decatur, Ill., and Cheryl (Jack) Roher of Mishawaka; grandchildren Elizabeth, Andrew, Killian, Abigail, Maximus and Eva Marshall, Lexi, Rachel and Mallory Lear, Jackson and Luke Roher, Morgan Waslowski, Tyler Spencer, Tobin Wirick and Evan Kauffman; his brother, Mark (Susan) Marshall of Mansfield, Ohio; sisters Anna Fawley of Elkhart and Mary Freed of Edwardsburg; and sisters-in-law Laura (David) Reed of Galion and Diana Hoffman of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

A celebration of Tony's life will take place at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, with visitation starting at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Tony's father-in-law, Glenn Hoffman, will officiate. In accordance with the family's wishes Tony has been cremated.

Tony worked for Frontier Communications as an outside planning engineer for nearly 20 years, and enjoyed his job with the help of his co-workers, Robin, Andrea, Jeff, Roger and his boss, Tom — just to mention a few.

He was a 1972 graduate of Edwardsburg High School, a 1975 graduate of Southwestern Michigan College and was an avid Detroit Lions fan who was a season ticket holder until 2011.

Tony was a combination of brilliant, charming and mischievous; he led his home with the wisdom of God and the Bible, as his family was his life. He once said that he had so many children because he had so much love to give. One of his favorite Bible passages alluded to this: "Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." (Psalms 127:5).

Tony's last year was a rough one, as he endured open heart surgery in December of 2012, and was later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His family remains ever grateful to the staff at Elkhart General Hospital for the excellent care he received. He remained faithful by remembering that "... to live is Christ; to die is gain." He will be sadly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Ribbon of Hope at Elkhart General Hospital or to the Tony Marshall Grandchild Fund at any Key Bank. Online condolences can reach the family by visiting www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
