Obituary

"You can't have an up without a down, a right without a left, a back without a front, — or a happy without a sad. This is the price you pay for a full life. You get the wonder, the joy, the tender moments, and the tears in the end too. " Our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Andrew Scott Haynes, passed away on July 12, 2025 after a valiant battle with an aggressive cancer. Andrew was born in Marion, Indiana on August 3, 1966 to Gerald and Elizabeth Haynes. Andrew was known by his friends and family as Ande or Dinky. Ande was an avid Indiana sports fan, —specifically Notre Dame, the Pacers, and most of all the Colts. He spent much of his time on the golf course, in a boat on the water, and on snowmobile trails in the Upper Peninsula. He was a proud member of ZB Falcons Nest 80 and an active member at Bowler's Country Club. Observing Ande in his natural element was something to behold as he was the life of every party. His love for a good laugh and chase for a good adventure defined him, of course accompanied by Cleatus and Z. Ande also had a love of good blues music which was an expression of his emotions and his individuality. His love for adventure and music were only surpassed by the love he had for his dogs, friends, and family. Ande is survived by the love of his life, Sue Haynes, his Mother, Elizabeth Haynes, his sister, Loretta Knight, his grandfather, Paul Smith, his friends, Rob Althouse, Tony Bennie, Brad Feece, and Terry James, his nephews, Ean (Melissa) Frederick, Phillip (Gabriela Lazalde) Wood, and Jacob Wood, his favorite niece, Emily Frederick, and 3 great nieces and 1 great nephew. He is proceeded in death by his fur children, Layla, Nellie, and Diggy, his grandmother Dona Lavon Smith, his father Gerald Haynes, his sisters, Victoria Frederick and Jennifer Haynes, and his dear friends Johnny Grembowicz and Kenneth Wood. A Celebration of Life for Ande will be held on Friday August 29th from 6 pm to 9 pm at Bowler's Country Club, 55839 Pine Road in South Bend, Indiana. Arrangements are being handled by Billings Funeral home in Elkhart. There is a celebration of life to be planned at a later date.
