ELKHART -- Andrew Dale Hollis, 6, of 57121 C.R. 13, left to be with the Lord on Monday (Feb. 25, 2008) following an accident while playing outside.

He was born in Elkhart on June 6, 2001, and is survived by his mother, Crystal D. Bauman-Hollis of Elkhart and his father, Timothy J. Hollis, also of Elkhart.

Also left to cherish his memory is his sister, Kayla Marie Hollis of South Bend, and grandparents Robert and Linda Bauman of Elkhart, John and Gladys Hollis of Three Oaks, Mich., and Robert and Patricia Donaldson of Racine, Wis.

Additionally, he will be remembered by his great-grandmothers, Hazel Speece of Muncie and Mary Bradley of St. Joseph, Mich., as well as his aunts and uncles, Tim and Cathy Bauman, Tom and Jennifer Bauman, Alex and Theresa Porter and Tom Hollis. Andrew also leaves behind a host of cousins, all of whom he considered his friends.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is handling arrangements and visitation will take place there on Friday (Feb. 29, 2008) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Then a celebration of Andrew's life will take place on Saturday (March 1, 2008) at Beulah Missionary Church, 57595 Old C.R. 17, at C.R. 18, Elkhart. The service will be at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen. Pastor Wesley A. Kring from the Montessori Michiana Christian School will officiate. A special flag ceremony by Cub Scout Pack 37 of Concord East Side Elementary School will start the services on Saturday. Online condolences can reach the family by visiting www.billingsfuneralhome.com.

Andrew will always be remembered for his contagious smile and his love for and reverence of his Christian faith. He had attended the Montessori Michiana Christian School in Elkhart for four years, but this year he was a first-grader at Concord East Side Elementary School, where he was active in Cub Scout Pack 37 and the "Happy Day Club," a Christian organization within the school.

He also loved all types of sports and was very active at the YMCA in Elkhart, where he played soccer, baseball, bowling and practiced Tae Kwon Do under the tutelage of Master Lyle Ryman.

Andrew was very proud of his martial arts skills and his instructor has promoted him to honorary "Black Belt." He also enjoyed video games and NASCAR, and would argue that there was no driver worthy of his admiration other than Dale Earnhardt Jr. Finally, he looked forward each year to the Christmas season, because he helped the U.S. Marine Corps with their local "Toys for Tots" gift drive. Many would say that he was Elkhart's youngest "Devil Dog."

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be given in Andrew's name to the Montessori Michiana Christian School Scholarship Fund or to the Andrew Hollis Memorial Fund in care of any Lake City Bank.

Please join Andrew's family in celebrating the life of a very special 6-year-old and in keeping his contagious smile alive.
