Alvaro Martin Marquez, 54, of Elkhart, went to be with His Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Alvaro was born on February 10, 1966 in Apan, Hidalgo, Mexico to Alvaro Marquez and Esther Dominguez. They both survive.

Alvaro is survived by his wife of 29 years, Catalina Venegas; daughters, Dara and Atzhiri Marquez both of Elkhart; brothers, Luis (Alida) Marquez, Roberto Marquez, both of Mexico; sisters, Patricia Marquez, Laura Marquez both of Mexico, Carmen (Roberto) Marquez of Elkhart; and many nieces and nephews.

Alvaro was the co-owner of The Arena in Elkhart, where many community gatherings have taken place throughout the years. Many knew Alvaro for his desire to uplift culture and support dreams. Alvaro founded Hidalgo Community Center and was a mentor to undocumented youth. Alvaro was involved with many local social causes relating to immigration rights in Elkhart.

He was very social and enjoyed listening to music and also played guitar. Alvaro was a humble and generous man and he will be greatly missed.

A Private Visitation and Funeral Service will be held on December 10, 2020 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions mandated by Elkhart County, the funeral home is requiring that a maximum of 25 people are allowed in the building at once, face masks must be worn at all times inside the funeral home and please practice social distancing.

Alvaro Martín Márquez, de 54 años de edad, de Elkhart IN fue hacia su Señor y Salvador el sábado 5 de diciembre del 2020 en el Hospital General de Elkhart.

Alvaro nació el 10 de febrero del 1966 en Apan Hidalgo México. Hijo de Alvaro Márquez y Esther Domínguez. Ambos le sobreviven.

A Alvaro le sobreviven su esposa Catalina Venegas; sus hijas Dara y Atzhiri Márquez, ambas en Elkhart; sus hermanos Luis (Alida) Márquez, Roberto Márquez, ambos en México; hermanas, Patricia Márquez, Laura Márquez ambas en México, Carmen (Roberto) Márquez en Elkhart; y muchas sobrinas y sobrinos.

Alvaro era el copropietario de La Arena en Elkhart, donde se han llevado a cabo muchas reuniones comunitarias a lo largo de los años. Muchos conocían a Alvaro por su deseo de elevar la cultura y apoyar sueños. Alvaro fundó el Centro Comunitario de Hidalgo y fue mentor de jóvenes indocumentados. Alvaro mantuvo un firme compromiso a la comunidad con su dedicación a causas sociales, relacionadas con los derechos de los inmigrantes y la comunidad en general.

Alvaro era muy sociable y disfrutaba escuchar música y también tocaba la guitarra. Alvaro fue un hombre humilde y generoso y lo extrañaremos mucho.

Visita y un funeral privado se llevará a cabo el 10 de diciembre de 2020 en la funeraria "Billings Funeral Home", 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.

Debido a las restricciones de COVID-19 otorgadas por el condado de Elkhart, la funeraria permite un máximo de 25 personas en el edificio a la vez, se deben usar máscaras en todo momento dentro de la funeraria y practicar el distanciamiento social.
