ELKHART- Alta M. "Shortie" McCreary, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born April 3, 1946 in Plainwell, MI to Duane L. and Lois M. (Powell) Martin.
On November 19, 1983 she married Robert J. "Bob" McCreary in Elkhart. He survives at home.

Other survivors include 1 daughter, Debra (Daniel) Carr of Elkhart; 2 sons, Daniel E. (Rebecca) Gill of Elkhart and Robert A. (Leslie) McCreary of Mishawaka; 1 sister, Shirley (Howard) Young of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Melvin Young.

Shortie was employed at Kemberly Inc. in Elkhart for more than 20 years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Riverview General Baptist Church for several years.
Shortie loved taking care of her dogs, fishing, playing Bingo and card games.

The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. today at Riverview General Baptist Church, 1201 E. Indiana Ave., Elkhart, IN 46516 and 1 hour prior to the 1:00 P.M. funeral service on Thursday, April 10th at Riverview General Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Pirtle will officiate. Interment will follow at Olive Cemetery, Elkhart.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
