ELKHART -- Alonzo Crawford White, 98, of Elkhart, joined our Lord on April 29, 2010, at 7:10 a.m. while at Hubbard Hill Estates.

He was born Jan. 21, 1912, in Marion to Estella and Alonzo White.

He was a graduate of Marion High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He later attended Indiana Business College in Fort Wayne where he earned an associate degree in accounting. Prior to retirement in 1973, Alonzo was employed with the Marathon Oil Company as an accountant for 27 years. On June 6, 1998, in Indianapolis, he married Leta Hixon White, a native of Elkhart.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sisters Harriet Tobias of Warren and Beatrice Maynard of Marion and stepdaughter Anita (Roger) Rains of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara; brother John and his first wife, Herta (Dyrna) White.

Alonzo was an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling immensely. He and Leta are members of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2837 E. New York St., Indianapolis, IN 46201.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday (May, 8, 2010) at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. The Rev. Ralph Spears will officiate. His cremated remains will be placed in the Veterans Tower in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the church.
