ELKHART — Alfred R. "Al" Moore, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 2012, at Riverside Village.
Al was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Elkhart to the late Ralph and Daydia (Peterson) Moore.
Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Stanley, Floyd, Lester and Robert Moore, and a sister, Pearl DuBois.
On July 6, 1945, he married Betty M. Nord.
She survives, as well as a son, Richard (Pam) Moore of Elkhart; three daughters, Sharen (Mike) Grace of Bristol, Conn., Barbara (Eric) Windbigler and Janet (Steve) Buckley of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend Phyllis Martin of Mishawaka.
Al worked as a custodian for 24 years at the former C.G. Conn, then in maintenance for Elkhart Community Schools at Westside Middle School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. After retirement, he delivered RVs and enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping.
Al's family would like to thank Riverside Village and Harbor Light Hospice for the kindness and care Al received.
No visitation or services are scheduled. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place at Altera Cremation Services under the direction of Veterans Funeral Care at Billings, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
