ELKHART -- Alfred Sutherland "Fred" Hinks, 73, of Elkhart, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (May 23, 2009) at home after an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Detroit to Alfred S. and Mary "Polly" (Sutherland) Hinks.

Mr. Hinks is survived by three brothers, Harvey D. (Carmen) Hinks of Elkhart, James C. "Jim" (Robbie) Hinks of Las Cruces, N.M., and Kenneth A. (Cindy) Hinks of Canton, Mich.

Mr. Hinks was not employed due to a disability. He was a very private individual and enjoyed the solitude of his own home. He enjoyed reading his Bible and watching family shows and comedies on TV.

No viewing or ceremonies have been scheduled. Cremation will take place. Burial will take place at a later date at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
