Obituary

ELKHART — Alberta Agnes (Meyer) Crosbie, 95, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, at Greenleaf Health Campus.

She was born Oct. 24, 1919, to the late Francis "Frank" J. and Frances Mary (Kreinebrink) Meyer on the family farm outside Avilla in Noble County.

She married Daniel B. Crosbie on Nov. 8, 1941, in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart. He passed away Oct. 12, 1994. Surviving are children, sons John (Carol) Crosbie and Gregory Crosbie, both of Bristol, daughter Connie Buckley of Elkhart; daughter-in-law Fredi Crosbie; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson and one due to arrive in October.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alberta was preceded in death by a son, Daniel J. Crosbie; son-in-law Michael Buckley; daughter-in-law Linda Crosbie; eight brothers and sisters; and a great-great grandson.

After graduation from St. Francis High School in Lafayette, she moved to Elkhart, where she worked as a secretary at Miles Laboratories until her marriage to Daniel. In 1956, she and her husband founded Crosbie Foundry in Elkhart. The business is now in its third generation, with two grandsons running the business. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she played the organ and was a past president of the Rosary Society. She was a volunteer at Elkhart General Hospital, where she worked as a buyer and made flower arrangements for the gift shop. After retiring in 1973, she and Dan wintered in Florida, where she played organ for their parish church for many years. She enjoyed fishing and was an accomplished golfer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jason Freiburger will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.

The family kindly requests memorials be given to the church or Harbor Light Hospice, 1608 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. The family would like to thank Harbor Light Hospice for the kindness and care Alberta received.
