Winifred J. “Winnie” Dorrier, 94, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2019 at 8:20 pm.
She was born in Elkhart on Aug. 10, 1924 to the late Edwin Forrest and Bessie (Pippenger) Forrest Dobbyn, and later married Verlin C. Dorrier in Elkhart in 1946. He passed in 2015.
Surviving is her daughter Nancy (Michael) McIntire; son Kenneth (Mary) Dorrier; sisters Juanita Stout and Betty (Paul) Fuller and sister-in-law Marcie Forrest. Brothers Frederick, Charles, Leo, Jack and Edwin Forrest, Jr. precede Winnie in death.
Winnie’s life will be celebrated at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart beginning Tuesday, Apr. 16, 2019 with a visitation from 4 – 7 pm. Funeral services will continue there on Wednesday, Apr. 17, 2019 at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10 am.
Winifred graduated from Concord High in 1942 and then worked at Miles Laboratories during WWII. She then went on to do book keeping and help in the lunchroom for the Jimtown School Corporation for many years. Winnie was a celebrated homemaker and loved to cook and bake for her family. She was also an avid Jimtown Jimmie fan and belonged to the First Church of God in Elkhart.
Memorials may go to the Center for Hospice Care or to the First Church of God, 2411 S. 6th Street, Elkhart.
