ELKHART — William C. “Bill” Hutkins, 58, passed away early Sunday, February 4, 2018 at his home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born on June 10, 1959 in Elkhart, a son of Bertram and Mary Rose (Collins) Hutkins. He married the love of his life Cora L. Hahn on June 3, 2006. Cora survives, as well as a daughter, Chassidy (Rich) Bailey; three grandchildren, Morgan, Eben and Leelan; brothers, Thomas J. Hutkins, Edward P. (Kay) Hutkins and his sister Mary T. Pierson (and her life partner, Maureen Bowersox); several nieces, nephews and extended family survive as well. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margaret R. Rose, who just passed 12 hours after Bill.
Bill graduated from Elkhart Memorial High School. He was a contractor for White House Restoration for many years, retiring due to his heath. For close to 20 years, Bill worked for the University of Notre Dame as a facility supervisor. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, was a NASCAR and Buffalo Bill’s fan and an avid animal lover. Combines services celebrating Bill and Margaret’s life will begin at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 8, with visitation with the family from 4:00 pm until service time at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Pastor Tom DeFries will officiate. Per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
