ELKHART — William D. Douwsma, “Mr. Bill”, 82, of Elkhart passed away at his home on Monday, July 10, 2017.
William was born in Chicago, IL on April 5, 1935, to the late William and Jeanette (Buikema) Douwsma.
Celebrating 60 years together, William married Jacqueline Peters on July 11, 1957; she survives along with their two children; son Dean (Mary Jo) Douwsma and daughter Dawn (Dana) Wales, and brother; Robert (Linda) Douwsma. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Abbey (Luke) Adkison, Seth (Jillian) Douwsma, Cody Wales, and Kailey Wales, along with two great-grandchildren; Jack Douwsma and Emmalyn Adkison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Bernie Douwsma, George Douwsma, and sister; Mary Ann Matthews.
William owned the Concord Marathon Station for 28 years. He was a member of the Dunlap Lions Club for 42 years and was the co-founder of the Elkhart Vintage Automobile Club (EVAC). He had an extreme passion for vintage cars. William enjoyed gardening, caring for his pond, and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 with a service following at 3:00 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
