Carol Sheldon, 80, of Elkhart, IN passed away to be with her loving husband, Charles Sheldon, on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart. She was born in Elkhart on September 1, 1938 to the late Vernon “Vern” and Bernice (Kelly) Schooley.
She is survived by her son, Ronald D. Schooley; stepson, Charles L. Sheldon, Jr.; sisters, Shirley (Kenneth) Eby of Walkarusa, IN and Audrey Slater of Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Ronny and Tesha Hawkins; two great grandchildren, Zoe Geisel and Sadie Holobyn; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Francis Schooley, Virginia Schumucker, Gerald Schooley, Marjorie Swinehart, Marion Spake, and Winifred Renfrow.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Little Pine Cemetery in Bristol at a later date. A memorial will be held for family and friends to gather, hosted by her two nieces and a nephew, at Foxwood Hills Camp Ground in Middlebury on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be given to the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart, 22579 Old U.S. 20, Elkhart, IN 46516.
Carol worked as a home healthcare provider for many years and worked in other various jobs around Elkhart. She was a former member of Living Waters Church in Elkhart and was very devout to her faith. She loved collecting tea pots and coffee cups and enjoyed cooking. She was a hardworking single mother for most of her life and always put her family first. Carol loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
