ELKHART - Thomas Ray “Tom” Massing, 80, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, January, 24, 2019 at Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was born to Peter and Eunice Pauline (Holtz) Massing on December, 25, 1938 in Elkhart. On May 27, 1972, Tom married Dora F. Trosper in Elkhart.
Dora survives, as well as two sons, Allan R. (Marianne) Massing, James L. Massing; three step-children, Rebecca (Dwayne) Neiswinger, Susan (Danny) Proud and John (Gaillyna) Trosper; four grandchildren, Andrew (Emily) Massing, Derek (Francesca) Massing, Neil Massing and Allyson (Jordan) Pennington; four step-grandchildren, Ryan (Angela) Neiswinger, Candace (Nathan) Miller, David Proud and Kathryn (John) Pennington; four step-great-grandchildren; also surviving is a brother, Donald (Marge) Massing and sister, Shirley (Gerald) Dickey.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert “Bob” Massing.
Tom formerly worked as a roofing contractor, was a local delivery driver and transported motor homes. He had recently been working for a security company. Tom enjoyed working in his yard and walking his former racing rescue greyhound dogs. He proudly served in the US Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1960. Per his wishes, cremation was chosen; burial will be at a later date at the Veterans Section at Prairie Street Cemetery. Memorials are requested to Elkhart Hospice House, St. Joseph Co. VA Clinic or your local Greyhound rescue.
