Robert L. "Bob" Souder

ELKHART: Robert L. “Bob” Souder, 76, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Elkhart General Hospital following an extended illness. Bob was born on July 13, 1942, in Garrett, IN to the late Gerry R. and Esther L. (Drerup) Souder. He married Loretta L. Nowak on May 14, 1966, in Bronson, MI.

He leaves behind his wife as well as a son Robert C. (Erin) Souder of Noblesville, IN; daughter Jennifer A. (Bill) Hobensack of Jacksonville, FL; 5 loving grandchildren; Ethan, Luke and Jacob Hobensack and Madelyn and Hannah Souder; sister Rita (Al) LePage of Plymouth, MI. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Dianne and Shirley Souder of Auburn, IN, and Sharon Bowman of Sturgis, MI.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Tom Souder, infant sister Esther Souder and 2 brothers-in-law, Louis Nowak and Gary Bowman.

Bob graduated from the International Business School in Ft. Wayne and Tri-State (Trine) University in Angola. He retired from Honeywell, Inc. in South Bend after many years of service.

Bob was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, watching sports, especially I.U Basketball and Notre Dame Football. Bob loved spending time with his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.  Monday, February 11, with visitation 1 hour prior at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St. Elkhart with Rev. Jason Freiburger officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass in Elliott Hall. Burial will then follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Sturgis.

Visitation for Bob will be from 4- 7 p.m.  Sunday, February 10, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The rosary will be prayed beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The family's preferred memorials are to St. Thomas or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
