Richard D. Brown, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Elkhart Hospice House to join his loving wife, Betty Jo (Bender) Brown, who passed away on September 27, 2018. He was born on June 29, 1937 in Elkhart to the late Richard and Mary (Bontrager) Brown.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Dennis) Tam, Cindy (Micky) Scott, and Tina (Ron) Drake; half-sisters, Pat (Euel) Taylor, Joyce (James) Miller, and Beverly (Warren) Toma; step sons, David Burkett and Rick Burkett; sister, Carol (Kenneth) Everett; brother, Herb (Sharon) Tebo; ten grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. He was preceded by his sons, Raymond Ritz, Michael Brown, and Richie Brown; half-sister, Nancy (Wayne) Good; half-brother, Tom Hogendobler; and step father, Woody Hogendobler.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2017 from 9 – 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Sheets officiating at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St, Elkhart. A graveside service with military honors will follow services at Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol to celebrate the life of both Betty Jo and Richard Brown, who are to be laid to rest together.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army during the war in Vietnam and worked for Goshen Rubber before retiring in 2002. He married Betty Jo on June 23, 1990 and they enjoyed 28 years of marriage together. Richard and Betty Jo will be missed greatly by their loving family.
