Phyllis J. Wysong, 90, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Greenleaf Health Care Campus in Elkhart on Thursday, June 13, 2019 following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in Laporte on May 31, 1929 to the late George and Mary (Carlin) Kiefer, and later married Wilbur E. “Windy” Wysong on Sept. 6, 1959 in Elkhart. He passed in 2003. Surviving are children Diane Kershner, Deb (Pete) Russell, Terry (Tomii) Wysong, Sally Webber, Patricia (Donald) Griffey and Bobette (Dennis) Graves; grandchildren Beth Smeltzer, Jeff Kershner; Melissa (Brandon) Dierickx and London (Pam) and Travis (Jenny) Russell; great grandchildren Jenna (Kelvin Terry), Leah and John (Cecilia Ortega) Gibson, Beau and Chandler Morris, Addison Dierickx and Brant Swinehart and great-great grandchildren Kenley and Kamden Terry, as well as one other on the way! She is preceded in death by siblings David Kiefer, Doris Forrest and Nancy Yost, and a grandson Todd Swinehart.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart will host Phyllis’ celebration of life service on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 4pm – 6pm, followed by a service at 6pm. Chaplain Arnell McCoy of Heartland Hospice will officiate, and in accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow the services and she will join her husband at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
Phyllis was a line leader at Whitehall Laboratories for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1991. She was a former Women of the Moose, where she loved to dance. She also enjoyed playing bingo or visiting the local casinos.
