ELKHART — Nora Mae Allen, 91, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home at 7:35 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018.
She was born in Branch County, Michigan, June 28, 1926, to the late Alva and Ollie Grace (Elliott) Allen.
She was preceded in death by her companion, Barbara Harding, who passed in 2013 and a sister, AnnaBelle Forrester.
Surviving are a host of nieces and nephews, including Dennis (Ann) McHenney of Kendallville, Mike (Florence) McHenney of Coldwater, Michigan, Patrick McHenney of Elkhart and Shelia McHenney Roderick, also of Elkhart, a multitude of great and great-great nieces and nephews, and her faithful schnauzer, Nicki.
A memorial service will take place at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 26824 C.R. 4, Elkhart, at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, with burial to follow in Mundy Cemetery in Branch County, Michigan, at a later date.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
Nora was a graduate of Michigan State University and completed her masters at the University of Notre Dame.
She served as lab supervisor at Elkhart General Hospital for more than 30 years, then continued on at the South Bend Medical Foundation another 20 years as their human resources vice president.
She enjoyed golf, gardening and fishing and was an avid animal lover.
Memorial donations can be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
