ELKHART — Nathaniel Gilbert, of Elkhart, passed away at the Golden Living and Rehab Facility in Elkhart on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at the age of 73.
Nathaniel was commonly referred to as “Gray” by his siblings, friends and family and “Uncle Gray” by his nieces and nephews.
Nathaniel confessed hope in Christ at an early age.
Preceding Nathaniel in death is his wife, Connie; his parents, Calvin and Mary F. (Swift) Gilbert; sisters Sylvia Leasure, Mary J. Jackson and Berniece Gilbert and brothers O.C., Calvin C. and twin brother, Nathan Gilbert.
Surviving are sisters Mable L. Davis, Ollie M. Gilbert, Beauty M. Bates, Beatrice F. Edwards, Shirley (T.L.) Honorable and Cathy L. Lindsey, all of Elkhart; brother Charles L. (Amy) Gilbert of Elkhart; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is hosting Gray’s homegoing service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Gray’s nephew, the Rev. James Leasure, will officiate and burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
Nathaniel was born in Blytheville, Arkansas, Nov. 6, 1944.
He was employed most of his adult life as a crane operator and later worked in manufacturing and assembly, retiring in 2004.
He enjoyed music, baseball, watching Westerns on TV and spending time with his family.
