Mr. Michael Eugene “Mike” Dukes, 56, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Elkhart General Hospital following a brief illness on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 9:55 am.
Mike was born in Osceola, Arkansas on Aug. 21, 1962 to the late Eugene Dukes and Addie (Newsom) Granderson, who survives him.
He is also survived by his daughters Ashley Marte, Whitney Stevens and Elyse Harris; brothers Tony Dukes and Gerald “Bodie” (Brenda) Johnson, and a multitude of loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia “Bent” Dukes Howard and his grandmother, Leila Wesley.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart will be hosting Mike’s homegoing service on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 12 noon, with visitation starting one hour prior. The Rev. Linda Barnes will officiate and military honors will be rendered by Elkhart DAV Post 19 and the US Army Funeral Honor Guard. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the services.
Mike worked in the local RV industry as a production worker for many years until his health required his early retirement. He was a 1980 graduate of Elkhart Central HS and went on to serve honorably in the US Army where he was stationed in Germany and worked on tanks. He was a lifelong fan of comic books and will be best remembered for his friendly demeanor, love for children and his love for making people laugh.
