Mrs. Mattie Mae Works, 81, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Elkhart Meadows Nursing Facility in Elkhart on Saturday, Apr. 20, 2019.
She was born in Blytheville, Ark. on Dec. 4, 1937 the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Ross) Jacob. She later married Charles W. Works, Sr. in 1956 in Sikesville, Mo. He passed away in Elkhart in 2015.
Cherishing her memory are her sons Charles W. (Lydia) Works, Sr., Jason J. (Sheena) Jacobs - Works and Todd A. (Patty) Works; sisters Shirley Stout and Mary James; brother LC (Jean) Jacob, Sr., and 5 grandchildren, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Preceding her are sisters Louise Crenshaw and Ruby Jacob, and brothers Alex, Sammy and Jake Jacob.
Mattie’s life will be celebrated with a homegoing service at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 802 W. Garfield Ave., Elkhart, on Saturday, Apr. 27, 2019 at 12:00 noon with visitation beginning at 11 am. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting the family with arrangements. In accordance with Mattie’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Mattie worked nearly 20 years at Federal Paperboard of Elkhart. She was also a disciplined homemaker and loved to spend time taking care of her family, cooking, fishing and reading. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest, where she served as a member of the choir.
