Mary C. Pleasant

Mary Catherine Pleasant, residing in Goshen, passed away from injuries following a motor vehicle accident in Elkhart on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She was 90 years young. Cathy was born on October 30, 1927 in White Plaines, Kentucky, a middle child of eleven born to Owen and Alma (Berry) Graddy. Cathy is survived by her daughter Sue A. (Dwayne) O’Neal; 3 grandchildren, Jon (Lydia) Pleasant, Jessica O’Neal, Carrie (William) Russell; 5 great grandchildren, Carter Pleasant, Ella Pleasant, Nyx O’Neal, Whitley Pleasant and Kyleigh Russell; also 6 siblings, Nanny Morgan, J.D. Graddy, Doshia Crump, Bobby Graddy, Nora Faye Dixon and Mae Prior.

 She was preceded in death by her son Richard W. Pleasant, 2 brothers, Charles and Elisha Graddy and her 2 sisters, Elmira Ritter and Lucille Glaysbrook.

Cathy was first and foremost an Evangelist; she loved the Lord and inspiring others by her actions and His words. She loved singing and playing the guitar, and has written her own music. She was a longtime and active member of the former New Life Center of South Bend.

Cathy was a good cook, and sewed many of her own clothes. She also enjoyed doing jig saw puzzles and word search books. Cathy loved being outdoors and enjoying all of God’s beauty. 

Services celebrating Cathy’s life will begin at 7:00 pm with visitation starting at 5:00 pm.  Monday, May 21, 2018 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Pastor Thomas Edwards of the West Edison Road Church of God will officiate. Per her wishes, cremation will follow the service. The families preferred memorials are to Cancer Resources of Elkhart Co.
