Mr. Mario Marquez, 65, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at Elkhart General Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 at 5:16 pm. He was born Nov. 14, 1954 in Port Clinton, Ohio to the late Eulalio and Alamar (Arredondo) Marquez and later married Rebeca Obregon on Nov. 25, 2005 in Goshen. She survives at home after 14 wonderful years together.
Other survivors include children Aleta (Mike Plajer) Marquez, Clara (Joan Mejia) Lozano, Jason (Susan) Marquez, Dirck Shriner and Jeremey Shriner; sisters JoAnn (Ed) Metzger and Norma (Mark) Bond, and grandchildren Braxton Myers, Irvin and Giancarlo Mejia, Brody Myers, Scarlett Plajer and Alessia Mejia. Preceding Mario in death is a brother, Michael, and a set of twin sisters who passed at birth.
Local arrangements include a Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning there at 10:00 am. Fr. Daniel Niezer will officiate, and then Mario will be transported home to Port Clinton by Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. There, a second service will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH. Fr. John Missler of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, will officiate and burial will follow locally at Riverview Cemetery.
Mario worked with fiberglass at several Elkhart area manufacturing facilities over the years, and also worked as a bartender many years as well. He was a member of the Goshen Moose and Elks Lodges, served as a catechism instructor at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, enjoyed playing golf and loved watching his grandchildren excel in their scholastic and sporting events.
