ELKHART — Maria Watterson, 92, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 14, 2017 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes.
She was born on Oct. 19, 1924 in Elkhart to the late James and Daphne (Karakatsane) Anthros.
She married Major “Mike” Watterson on June 2, 1951 in Waterloo, Indiana. Mike passed on August 9, 1972.
Surviving are her four children, sons, Steve Watterson, David (Dawn) Watterson both of Elkhart, daughters, Patty (Jack) Barrett of Elkhart and Debra (Kim) Cook of Wakarusa; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren survive as well.
In addition to her parents and husband Mike, a brother, Phillip Anthros preceded her in death.
Maria graduate in 1943 from Jimtown High School.
She retired from CTS after nearly 34 years of service.
She loved traveling and vacations with her close friend Maxine and also enjoyed poker parties with her Rivershore friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, Sept.19, from 4-8 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart.
Services celebrating Maria’s life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home, with 1 hour calling prior to the service.
Pastor Dan Forehand of Grace Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.

Maria’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Cottage memory care unit at Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation and Harbor Light Hospice for the kindness and care given to Maria.
