Margaret "Peggy" Peterka Life Story

Margaret Sue “Peggy” Peterka, 85, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday afternoon at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born on June 12, 1933 in Red Wing, MN, to Hiram and Dolores (Gustafson) Fleming. She married Frederick E. Peterka on July 1, 1955; who preceded her in death, as well as her sister Dolores “Punky” Eyrich.

Surviving are sons, Joseph Peterka, Peter Peterka; daughters, Kathi Peterka, Kari Phillipp and Lynn Peterka; also 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Margaret worked as a social worker for several years after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Macalester College in St. Paul.   She married and began her life as a homemaker raising her five children. Her daughter Lynn, a special needs person, led her to take an active role with ADEC.  She later joined Welcome Wagon, where she became known as the Welcome Wagon Lady. For her skill and passion for bridge, she was affectionately known as the Bridge Winner and was a member of many bridge clubs in the area. She was an avid golfer at Christiana Creek Country Club (Elks Club) and played on courses throughout the world. Peggy loved traveling and spending time with her family. She also loved animals and feeding the birds. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Her family kindly requests memorial donations to ADEC, 19670 St. Road 120, Bristol, IN 46507.

Per her wishes, cremation was chosen under the care of Billings Funeral Home.
