ELKHART: Margaret R. “Maggie” Rose, 67, passed away at her home, just 12 hours after her brother Bill on Sunday, February 4, 2018. “Maggie” as she was known was born May 7, 1950 in Elkhart to the late Bertram and Mary Rose (Collins) Hutkins. She was married to Walter Rose, they divorced. Margaret is survived by her long-time companion John Kauffman; two brothers, Thomas J. and Edward P. (Kay) Hutkins, sister Mary T. Pierson (and life partner Maureen Bowersox); several nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends survive her as well. Margaret worked as a waitress for many years at Joe & Eddies Restaurant, Bull Dog Saloon and Miles Lab. She also worked as a bookkeeper in the RV Industry and also delivered RV’s across the country. She enjoyed spending time at the local lakes, was an avid animal lover and appreciated the Art’s. Combined services celebrating Margaret’s and Bill’s life will begin at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 8, with visitation with the family from 4:00 pm until service time at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Pastor Tom DeFries will officiate. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Margaret’s name to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
