Marcine Todd

ELKHART — Marcine Todd, 81, of Elkhart, passed away June 20, 2018.

Marcine was born August 23, 1936 to the late Henry and Helena (Einemann) Kahrs in Chappell, NE.

She was an avid Notre Dame fan – football, basketball, hockey & baseball. She loved to travel, having visited all 50 of the United States and 5 continents. She received a Bachelors Degree from Concordia University and a Masters from Valparaiso University. She was an Elementary School Teacher in Edwardsburg, MI for over 35 years. She also taught in South Bend Schools; St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Bremen, IN; Redeemer Lutheran School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and as a substitute teacher for Elkhart Schools.

She was a member of Michigan Education Association, serving 13 years on the State Board of Directors; The Edwardsburg Education Association, serving as President for 8 years; and The National Education Association. She was also a member of the Wellfield Botanic Gardens Inc., Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary, and Friends of the Library.

She is survived by her nephews, Bruce and Marlin Rhoads; niece, Linda Seedorf; friends, Ryan Schmidt, Cheryl Paladino, Robert Senne, Beckie Minix and Stephanie; numerous other friends and family; and by her cats.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Walter Kahrs; and sister, Margaret Rhoades.

As per her wishes, no services will be held. However, there will be a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1133 Kilbourn Street, Elkhart, IN  46514. An opportunity for Marcine's friends to meet one another and share memories. Light snacks will be served.

Memorials in Marcine’s memory may be given to Tree House Animal Shelter in Chicago, Independent Cat Society of Michigan City, and to the Elkhart County Humane Shelter.
