GOSHEN — Laura M. Barrett, 94, residing at Greencroft Goshen, passed to her rest Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, surrounded by love and family. Laura was born on the family farm in Sturgis, MI on April 27, 1927 to Ralph and Nona (Claypool) Flowers. She married Harold Marshall Barrett on September 4, 1942 in Riverside, Calif. Harold passed on March 26, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Larene) Barrett, David H. (Sharon) Barrett; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews survive her as well.
In addition to her parents and husband, Laura had 5 brothers, Arnold, Carl, Bill, Rex, Robert “Bob” Flowers and a sister Vera who preceded her in death.
Laura formerly worked as the secretary for the Sturgis, Michigan Girl Scout Council. She was raised in the Methodist faith. Laura loved to read, especially mysteries, romance and western books and also enjoyed crocheting and coloring. Per her wishes, cremation was chosen. A celebration of life service will be held at later date, with burial in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The family prefers memorials to the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart Hospice House.
