Katharine "Kay" Dempsey

Katharine “Kay” Dempsey, 91, of Millersville, lost her battle with cancer on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD. 

She was born December 17, 1925 in Pecos, TX to L. Burkett and Lucille (Brooks) Richardson. She graduated from Pecos High School and attended Texas State College for Women, where she majored in business administration. On February 28, 1946 she married Marion E. (Bill) Dempsey.

Kay was an active member of many groups and activities throughout her life, including the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. She also served as President of the Fort Meade Officers Wives Club. Along with her late husband, Kay was an avid square dancer, and for many years, belonged to the Circle and Square Dance Club. She also enjoyed bridge and mahjong and continued to play regularly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years in 1997, and two sons, William (Bill) and John (Brent) Dempsey. Kay is survived by her sons, Brian Dempsey of Millersville, MD and Bruce Dempsey of Queen Anne, MD; a daughter in law Carole Dempsey of Silver Spring, MD; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A., 851 Annapolis Rd., Gambrills, MD 21054 on Wednesday October 4 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 9, at Carleton Cemetery in Elkhart, IN.
