ELKHART – John H. Brouwer Jr., 74, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 18, 2018 at his home.
John was born Feb. 9, 1943 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to John H. and Maxine (Smith) Brouwer Sr.
He married Judith A. Smith on April 17, 1965 in Kalamazoo.
Judy survives, as well as a son, William Brouwer, and daughter Lori (Tim) Herremans; 4 grandchildren, Tiffani Keyser, Courtney Brouwer, Travis Page and Austin Brouwer; also his brother Bernard (Hope) Brouwer and mother Maxine Webb, survive as well.
He was preceded in death by his father John H. Brouwer Sr.
John was a truck driver for 22 years, 17 of those years, he worked at Foamcraft.
He loved to vacation in the UP of Michigan at a close family member’s cabin on Pickerel Lake in Alanson, where they had the annual smelt fishing and cooking of the catch, and many wonderful memories.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a cook, from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1964.
He enjoyed being outdoors and mowing his lawn.
A celebration of life service for John will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard and DAV #19.
