James M. Wood

SOUTH BEND — James M. Wood Jr., 74, of South Bend, passed to his rest on Saturday evening, Nov. 18, 2017, at Goshen General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
James was born Nov. 12, 1943, in Alexandria, to the late James M. and Mary Ellen (Stanley) Wood Sr.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Patricia A. (Denton) Wood, sister Marrietta Rogers and son-in-law Dennis Streetman preceded James in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela E. Streetman and Patricia S. (Donald) Wood-Myers; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother Charles (Barbara) Cox; and a sister, Lorretta Niccum.
James graduated from Wendell Willkie High School in Elwood.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a medic.
He was stationed in Japan during that time; it was there he met and married Saiko Ishii. She died Sept. 16, 1971. He was honorabley discharged in 1967.
In his younger years, he worked for Lucky Strike Lanes and Elwood Bowl in Elwood.
James formerly worked for Western Rubber Co., Proof Co., Turtle Top and delivered the Goshen Newspaper for many years.
He was active at the Goshen Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler and participated in league bowling for many years.
James was very patriotic.
He will be honored with services at the Marion National Cemetery, commencing at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24.
The U.S. States Army Funeral Honor guard will render final honors for James.
Memorials may be directed to Riley’s Children Research Hospital.
