James K. “Jim” Heminger, 88, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, following an extended illness.
He was born March 14, 1930, to the late Willard and SaDessa (James) Heminger.
He married Nina G. Swihart on Oct. 20, 1951. She survives after 67 wonderful years together.
Also surviving are his daughter, Sheila Elonich; brother Jack (Joy) Heminger; sister Maralynn (Jerry) Bushong; and grandson Conner Elonich.
Siblings Ellowee Mayes and Norman Heminger preceded Jim in death.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Elkhart.
No immediate services have been planned.
Jim was a telecommunications installer for GTE for more than 40 years.
He was also a very accomplished woodworker and carver and was very handy at building or fixing just about anything.
When he wasn’t working, he was busy fishing, boating and making fond family memories at his beloved Shipshewana lake.
Memorial donations may go to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
