ELKHART — Jack H. Palmer, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 6:18 p.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
Jack was born on May 6, 1943, in South Bend to the late Howard and Ruth Palmer.
He married the former Joyce A. Fruehwirth on July 14, 1973, in Elkhart. Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Joyce; two sons, Brian Dale (Bev) Palmer, Thomas Raymond (Tonya) Palmer; 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way; brother Harold L. “Big H” Palmer, and sister Evelyn Ransbottom. In addition to his parents, a daughter, Stacy Jean Palmer Andrade, preceded him in death.
Jack graduated from North Liberty High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1963, where he served with the Antisubmarine Squadron 28.
He formerly worked as a salesman for Homeshopper, He was a co-owner of J & J Contractors with his wife Joyce, where they did construction projects and took care of rental property. He also worked at the Schultz Building, taking care of all the maintenance there.
Jack was a member of the Elkhart Columbus Club at the Knights of Columbus building, where he helped manage the bar and was instrumental in starting and helping with the children’s Christmas party for many years.
Family and friends may gather from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
The afternoon will conclude with a short prayer and military honors by the U.S Navy Funeral Honor Guard and DAV #19.
