Helen LeFever Life Story

ELKHART —  Helen Marie LeFever, 75, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018, at the Elkhart Center for Hospice.

She was born Oct. 29, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, to Andrew and Helen (Kissel) Roman.

She married William LeFever Sr. on Feb. 17, 1968, at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Helen worked as a medical staff coordinator for Fairbanks Memorial Hospital before moving with her family to Indiana.

She loved to garden; she and her husband grew all their own vegetables.

She spent the colder months inside crocheting.

She loved to cook; the kitchen was her domain, and not many were allowed in while she was preparing meals.

She was quite active outside of the home, as well, until her illness in 2013.

She reached the highest level, College of Regents, in the Women of The Moose Chapter 73 in Elkhart.

She was a member of the American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary, Osceola Chapter 308.

She was also very active at her church, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer of Elkhart.

She is survived by her husband; children Heidi (Jeff) Oliver, Jennifer (Jason) Merrill, Bessie (William) Griseto and Cpt. Maurice “Butch” (Christina) LeFever; estranged children William LeFever Jr. and Jason LeFever; brothers John Roman and Joe Roman; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial for Helen will be at a later date.
