Eldon M. Herrli, 92, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Greenleaf Healthcare Campus in Elkhart on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 6:42 p.m.
He was born April 23, 1925 in Elkhart to the late George and Ruth (BeMiller) Herrli.
On Nov. 24, 1948, he married Katherine I. Gerber in Elkhart, where she passed away in February of 2017 after nearly 70 wonderful years together.
Also surviving are children Tim (Susan) and Tod (Renee) Herrli and Julia Herrli Castello; grandchildren Carley (Dan) Mayer, Cassandra (David) Haller, Lauren (Brian) Warner and Tanner, Trevor, Nathan and Natalie Herrli and great grandchildren Ethan, Addison and Emmi Mayer and Graham Haller. Preceding him in death are his brothers Richard and Loren Herrli and his sister Christine Rouch.
Pastor Jennifer Weaver and the congregation of the Calvary United Methodist Church, 2222 W. Indiana Ave., Elkhart, are honored to host Eldon’s celebration of life services on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 6 p.m., with visitation beginning at 4 p.m.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting with arrangements and will follow the services with a cremation and burial at Olive West Cemetery at a later date.
Eldon was a lifelong farmer and drove a Baugo school bus route for over 32 years. A graduate of Jimtown High School, he also belonged to Calvary UMC and the Elkhart Lions Club. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, yardwork and working on machinery; and he will be best remembered for his easy going smile and his ability to treat everyone like a long-time friend.
