Elaine Marie Baldwin

Elaine Marie (Hendriksen) Baldwin, 95, passed away peacefully, at Greenleaf Health Campus on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017.

Elaine was born June 13, 1922, in Fremont, Nebraska to the late Henry and Jensine (Jensen) Hendriksen.

She was preceded in death by her only sibling, H.W. “Bud” Hendriksen.

Elaine married William “Bill” Baldwin on January 25, 1948 in Fremont. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 2016.

Surviving are their children, Sharon (Nelson) Hahn of Nappanee, Maralee (Steve) Macumber of Elkhart, Philip (Deb) Baldwin of Keller, Texas, Janene (Mike) Kindy of Goshen and Luke (Lori) Baldwin of Elkhart. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and another arriving soon.

Elaine was a graduate of Fremont High School and also attended Midland College.

She had strong office skills and used them in many positions, including working for the Nebraska Ordinance Plant during WWII.

Elaine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Her greatest pleasure was feeding and caring for family, and baking cookies! She had a strong love of music and for many years was a church organist and vocalist.

She was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart.

Services celebrating Elaine’s life will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6,  with visitation 1 hour prior at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1133 Kilbourn St., Elkhart.

Rev. Steven Reshan will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be given to the Center for Hospice Care, 22579 Old US 20 East, Elkhart, IN 46516 or to the church.
