ELKHART — Dorothy Helen Grove, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Hubbard Hill Estates. She was 105 years old.

Dorothy was born Oct. 14, 1907, in Goshen. She was the second of four children born to Charles and Cora (Muffley) Stout. On Oct. 6, 1927, she married Oscar Earl Grove in Albion. He passed away Sept. 14, 2005, after 77 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, Oscar; sisters Ruby Evans and Florence Drummond; and a brother, Murry Stout, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Carl “Jim” Grove and his wife, Nancy, of Elkhart; her daughter, Betty Lou Ingram of Denver; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a homemaker and a former member of Middlebury United Methodist Church for 41 years. She enjoyed and was devoted to her large family as it unfolded throughout many generations. Gardening and handiwork of many kinds were among her talents. She was a master seamstress and equally adept at knitting and crochet, which she continued well into her final years. Many happy recipients were in awe of her unique gifts.

Family and friends of Dorothy and Oscar will always remember them as a team throughout their devoted and loving marriage. They touched countless lives and will be remembered for their deep faith, humility, sacrificial love and grace. Offering open hearts and loving hands throughout their extraordinary lives, they inspired all as excellent role models for a life well lived. As Dorothy is now reunited with Oscar, we take comfort in the words, “well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Private graveside services and burial for Dorothy will be at Violet Cemetery, Goshen. The Rev. Wayne Speicher will officiate.

If friends so desire, memorials in her name may be made to Hubbard Hill Retirement Home or Harbor Light Hospice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home.
