ELKHART — Mr. Donald O. “Don” Campbell, 76, of Elkhart, passed away suddenly at his home following an apparent heart attack on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at 9:48 am.
He was born Mar. 8, 1942 in Elkhart County to the late Jesse and Leah Fay (Black) Campbell, and leaves behind his loving spouse of 26 years Rose (Herbert) Campbell.
Also surviving is his daughter Heidi (Michael Esposito) Campbell, grandson Dane Campbell, granddaughter Blake Campbell, and a host of extended family. Preceding Don in death are sisters Evaellen Korenstra, Marjorie Hammood, Betty McCoy, Mary Miller, JoeAnn Coss and brother Robert Campbell.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart will be hosting Don’s remembrance of life gathering on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 4-6 pm. In accordance with his wishes, Don is to be cremated following his visitation.
Don graduated from Concord High School on 1960 and was always an active member of their class reunion committees. He retired from First National (Key) Bank of Elkhart as Asst. VP of General Services after 30 years there, and also worked for Elkhart County as a courier and maintenance person. He enjoyed gardening, boating and fishing, but he derived his most pleasure from spending time with his family and grandchildren and watching his beloved Cubbies knock yet another beanbag into the stands. He will be best remembered for his hearty laugh and missed by all who knew him.
