Donald A. "Don" Heimann

ELKHART — Donald A. “Don” Heimann, 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at 5:05 a.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.
He was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Decatur to the late Joseph and Victoria (Ulman) Heimann and went on to marry the lovely Marjorie McAlhaney in Denver, Colorado in 1945. She passed away in Elkhart in 2008.
Surviving are his daughters Nancy (Mike) DeMarco of Goshen, Janet (Sonny Pusey) Ledyard of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Becky (Keith) McGrew of Cassopolis, Michigan; sons Joseph (Jan) Heimann of Carmel and Scott (Dona) Heimann of South Bend; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Preceding Don in death are siblings Gerry Bowers and Art and Robert Heimann.
Don originally began as a farmer, but went on to become an entrepreneur in the local RV industry.
He was a man of strong faith and deep devotion to his God, his church and his family, and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Elks.
He also served honorably in the US Army during WWII, where he assisted and comforted troops aboard liberty ships coming home from overseas.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart will be hosting Don’s life celebration from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27. On Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart.
The Reverend Matthew Coonan will officiate and cremation will follow services. A private family burial with military honors will take place at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Cemetery in Elkhart at a later date.
The family has asked that memorial donations be given to the church.
