ELKHART – Donald J. DeVore, 71, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born October 8, 1946 in Fredericktown, MO to the late A. W. and Georgia (Anthony) DeVore. He married Karen E. Neel on May 20, 1990.
Donald was a career US Service Member, first serving in the Navy, then serving in the Army, where he spent the majority of his 23 year career. He liked camping, fishing, BBQing, and making smoked ribs. He loved working with technology and was one of the co-founders of Brigadoon.com. He spent time as a Soccer Coach and Band Dad at Concord High School. He was a Free Mason and was a member of the Hillcrest United Methodist Church, but in recent years became a member of the Beulah Missionary Church. He loved spending time with family and he especially loved to play the game Family Farm with his great-granddaughter, Kairi.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Sean (Tora) DeVore and Travis DeVore; daughter, Sherra (Mike) Chenoweth; step-daughter, Cynthia Blackmon; step-son, Gerald Huntington; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Jean (Cliff) Erickson; brother-in-law, Gerry (Diane) Neel; and sister-in-law, Joyce Hand.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Barbara Ellis and Linda Grimm.
Memorial services will be held at Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 4206 E Bristol St, Elkhart, IN 46514 on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018 at 2pm, with a visitation starting at 1pm.
Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to Holt international and to the National Stroke Association (Stroke.org).
