Demetre C. "Jimmy" Bartzis

Demetre C. “Jimmy” (the Greek) Bartzis, 88 of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Elkhart General Hospital on Thursday, June 8, 2017.

He was born in Krines of Korinthias, Greece on Dec. 18, 1928 to the late Christos and Magdelina (Thefonis) Bartzis and later married Linda L. Christopher in 1985. She survives him at home.

 Also surviving are children Susan (George) Kinsman and Joe, Pete and Steven Bartzis; brother Frank Bartzis; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grand, and one great-great grandson. He is preceded in death by a son, Christopher Bartzis, and several brothers and sisters.

In accordance with Jimmy’s wishes, there are no services and cremation is to take place. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is handling arrangements.

Jimmy was a cook and owned several restaurants throughout his lifetime. He also served with the allies during WWII as a proud member of the Greek Army.

Memorials may go to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
