BRISTOL — Darlene K. Riggs, 76, of Bristol, passed away unexpectedly following a sudden illness at Goshen Health Hospital at 12:43 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018.
She was born, in Elkhart, May 20, 1942, to the late Fred and Betty (Lockard) Plass Babcock, and was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. “Joe” Riggs, who passed in Goshen.
She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Bill Babcock, brother Darl Plass and son-in-law Stephen Steele.
Surviving are children Mary Riggs, Christine Steele and Jon (Cheri) Riggs; grandchildren Josh (Lindsay) Steele, Shannon (Dave) Berg, JD (Libby) Riggs, Tyler (Heather) Riggs, Sarah and Adelle Steele and great-grandchildren Lily, Evie and Mira Steele and Cameron Riggs; and cousin Tommy Salmon.
Billings Funeral Home will host Darlene’s life celebration services with a viewing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24.
A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
Mass of Catholic Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. and the Rev. Robert Van Kempen will officiate.
Darlene was an X-ray technician at the Elkhart Clinic for many years and was also volunteer coordinator for the Elkhart County American Cancer Society.
She had worked at Whitehall Laboratories for a time, as well as being a member of the Bristol and Elkhart Lions clubs.
She loved paper crafts and making greeting cards, and she and her late husband owned the Craft Depot in Bristol for several years.
Memorial donations can be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County or to St. Mary’s Church.
