Charles R. Ornduff

ELKHART - Charles R. “Chuck” Ornduff Sr., 86, of Elkhart, Indiana passed away peacefully Saturday evening, October 21, 2017 at Center for Hospice Care Elkhart, with his family by his side. He was born on June 10, 1931 in Cumberland, Maryland to Olen and Thelma P. (Shrout) Ornduff. Chuck married Cecilia Avina on February 14, 1953 in Greely, Colo. surviving is his wife of 64 years, Cecilia; son, Charles R., Jr. (Nancy) Ornduff; two daughters, Dannette (Jeff) Eberhard, Sidney Ornduff (fiancé Robert M. Kelsey); 4 loving grandchildren, Jason Eberhard, Brent Eberhard, and Piper and Gage Ornduff. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan Smigal and infant daughter Carol Ann Ornduff. Chuck worked as a branch and division manager for The Associates and in management and corporate staff for Coachman Industries for over 40 years.  He was also co-owner of Santa Fe Vans. Chuck was a proud veteran of the Korean War, earning the rank of Staff Sargent at the time of his honorable discharge in 1955. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks, Moose Lodge, Lions and Knights of Columbus. Chuck was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church since 1974, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and usher. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and was an avid Notre Dame and L.A. Dodgers fan. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart, where a parish rosary will be prayed to conclude the evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with visitation 1 hour prior Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St. The Rev. Jason Freiburger will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV #19.
