SHIPSHEWANA — Mrs. Betty L. Hanson, 86, of Shipshewana, passed away following a sudden illness at IU Health Goshen General Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 at 12:36 am.
She was born in Kendallville on Feb. 12, 1932 to the late Clarence and Kathryn (Marshall) Albaugh. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Dean, infant brother Louis, and infant sisters Rene and Francis Albaugh.
Surviving are her children Claren (Robin) Hanson of Shipshewana, Joe (Ruth) Tarlton of Pierceton, Roberta “Bobbi” (Terry) Good of Kendallville, Kathryn (Robert) Cluff-Braglin of Clayton, NC and Willa (Corky Taylor) Turczi of North Webster; brothers Jerry (Claudia) Albaugh of Shipshewana and Robert Albaugh of Kendallville, with whom she was very close. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
In accordance with Betty’s wishes, no immediate services have been planned and Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with cremation arrangements. Burial will take place at a later date in Albion, IN
Betty lived life to the fullest and was not afraid of a hard day’s work. She was employed at Essex Wire in Ligonier for over 30 years as well as Foo and Faye’s Restaurant, a regionally-renowned Chinese restaurant that was located in Syracuse, for over 20 years as well. She also had a knack for sales, and brokered everything from Avon to Sarah Coventry Jewelry to Tupperware over the years. She was a member of the Scott United Methodist Church in Shipshewana, the 50’s Club, the Red Hat Society and served as a UAW Union Steward for many years as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations may be given to the Arbor Day Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice
