Antal Szucs Life Story

ELKHART - Antal I. “Tony” Szucs, 83, passed away Thursday evening, April 5, at Elkhart Hospice House. Tony was born on December 13, 1934 in Ercsi, Hungary to the late Gabor and Terez Szucs. He lived in Hungary until the age of 14; he came to live in the United Sates in New York for 4 years where he enjoyed playing volleyball and soccer. He moved to Elkhart, where he married Marylou Peffley on September 24, 1960, Marylou died on August 18, 2017 after 56 years of marriage. Surviving are 4 children, Toni “Kay” Harney, Tracey (Joe) Hyde, Tanya Winslow and Michael (Ylonda) Szucs; grandchildren, Eric, Jordan, Brittany, Kiesha, Dustin, Jacob, Luke, Megan, Kaylin, Christopher and Katelyn and great grandchildren, Kaison, Kasey and Leilani. Sister Julie Nagy and brothers, Alec and Imra Szucs preceded him in death.

Tony worked for the Wilts Food Center for 37 years and Martin’s Super Markets for 10 years, retiring in 2007. Tony was member of the Elkhart Knights of Columbus Council #1043 and a 4th. Degree member of Assembly #2235 of Goshen. He was a longtime member and usher at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church.   Tony was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame Fan; he helped plan the K of C bus trips to Wrigley Field for many years. He also loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events. A Saturday ritual of Tony’s was going to the Goodwill store.

 A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Tony at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at St. Vincent depaul Catholic Church. Reverend Matthew Coonan will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until start of mass. Per his wishes, cremation will follow. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart.
