Alfred Louis Lee, 78, residing in Elkhart, passed away Friday morning, January 11, 2019 at his home, after an extended illness, surrounded by his family. Alfred was born on June 13, 1940 in Cairo, Illinois to the late Alfred and Idella (Ham) Lee. He married Deloris Jean Peoples on February 15, 2014, She survives, as well as 3 daughters, Dorothy (Robert) Lewis, Darlene (John) Dusty, Judith Rasberry; son William (Shannon) Lee; step-children; Deborah Sheppard, Maurice Peoples, Marjorie (Eddie) Peoples; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; also
4 brothers, Paul (Brenda) Lee, Ernest (Mary) Lee, Robert (Jessie) Lee, Samuel (Renee) Lee; 2 sisters Corinne (Marven) Holder, Rosie (Freddie) Taylor; 2 step-brothers, Carl Riley, Jimmy Riley; 2 step-sisters, Dorothy Nevels, Jeanette Sloan and special friend Dave Simms.
In addition to his parents, brothers, Carl Davis Lee, Charles Lee and sisters Inez Lee, Suphalia Jackson, Ruth Davis and Melvin Shelton; step-mom Lily Lee and step-daughter Doris Conyers, preceded Alfred in death.
Alfred was the original owner and operator of Bill’s BBQ from 1983 until 2014. He also worked as a truck driver for many years. He graduated from the Ryder Technical Institute in 1974, received his CDL in 1991 and drove a truck for Schneider National, Inc. Alfred also was a real estate salesman. Alfred enjoyed reading, spending time with his family and cooking.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1966.
Funeral services for Alfred L. Lee will be held at Noon Saturday, January 19, 2019 at New Vision of Life Church, 400 W. Mishawaka Road. Elkhart, with Pastor Marvin T. Pace officiating. Viewing will begin 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery veterans section with military honors being rendered by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV #19.
