Helen D. Volheim

LAGRANGE -- Helen D. Volheim, 101, of LaGrange, formerly of Elkhart, died Tuesday morning (March 2, 2010) in Life Care of LaGrange.

She was born Nov. 19, 1908, in Moline, Ill., to Arthur and Dorothy (Lothridge) Lundgren. She married Harland W. Volheim in 1950 in Grand Rapids, Mich. He died in 1976 in Fort Wayne.

Surviving are one son David L. (Brenda) Volheim of Shipshewana; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Pierce.

Helen was a beautician in Illinois for more than 20 years at various salons. She was raised in the Methodist faith and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church while residing in Elkhart. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed gardening and raising African violets.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where a service to celebrate her life will be at 7 p.m. Pastor Mark Waltz of Granger Community Church will officiate. Online condolences may be sent at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
