Velma M. Gorce
ELKHART -- Velma M. Gorce, 92, of Elkhart, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, in Elkhart Hospice House. She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Archbold, Ohio, to Jacob B. and Mattie (Yoder) Miller. On Nov. 16, 1946, she married Anthony Edward Gorce in Elkhart. He died Aug. 8, 1977. Mrs. Gorce is survived by two daughters, Cheryl L. (Neil) Herman and Sue Ann Brown, both of Elkhart; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Sally) Miller of Goshen; and three sisters, Irene Rheinheimer of Goshen, Ruth Ann McGinnis of Elkhart and Phyllis Troyer of Millersburg. She was preceded in death by one son, Anthony E. Gorce Jr.; three brothers, Glenford Dale, Ora Jay and Harold Miller; and one sister, Lucille Mierau. Mrs. Gorce worked as a punch operator for more than 20 years at Taylor Products. She attended Silverwood Mennonite Church, Goshen, and loved to play card and board games, cook, sew and travel. She enjoyed making crafts and ceramics. A gathering of friends and family will be one hour prior to Friday's 6 p.m. memorial service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Gary Ketcham of New Testament Bible Church will officiate. Memorials may be given to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. Dearest Cheryl & Sue Ann & Family, I pray that God may be a Guiding Beacon of Light, for you, at this time of your loss!! My prayers go out to each one of you; we all knew how Velma meant to each one of us!! She had enough room in her heart for all of us!! I share in your loss also, because I feel that I lost a Dear friend too!!! I will miss her Humongous smile, and her Affection for others around her!!
